Nashik 2 Day Itinerary
Temples, Ghats & Wine in 48 Hours

Nashik rewards travellers who stay at least two nights. One day is enough to touch the surface. Two days lets you experience the city: the ghat before dawn, ancient Buddhist caves, vineyards in afternoon light, and a proper evening. This itinerary works year-round but is ideal for Kumbh Mela 2027 visitors wanting to see Nashik beyond just the ghat.

Day 1 — The Sacred City

5:30 AM — Ramkund Ghat at Dawn

Wake before sunrise. Walk to Ramkund Ghat. Morning light on the Godavari, bells, the first bathers on stone steps — this is Nashik at its most authentic. The 6 AM aarti is one of the most atmospheric experiences in Maharashtra. Take a holy dip if you wish. Spend 45 minutes here.

7:00 AM — Breakfast in the Panchavati Lanes

Eat at one of the old dhabas behind Ramkund. Order sabudana khichdi, poha with shev, or Nashik misal pav. ₹50–100 per person. The best dhabas have no names — look for ones with locals eating.

8:00 AM — Kalaram Temple

500 metres from Ramkund. The black Ram idol is one of the most striking temple images in Maharashtra. Architecturally significant, historically important (site of Dr. Ambedkar's 1930 satyagraha). 30–45 minutes.

9:00 AM — Sita Gufa and Panchavati Banyan Tree

5-minute walk from Kalaram. Sita Gufa is the cave where Sita is believed to have stayed. Small, atmospheric, actively worshipped. The ancient Panchavati Banyan (one of Maharashtra's oldest trees) is adjacent. 20 minutes.

10:00 AM — Pandavleni Caves

Auto to Pandavleni Caves (5 km, ₹60–80). 24 Buddhist rock-cut caves from the 3rd century BC carved into Trirashmi hill. Extraordinary workmanship — Buddha carvings, stupas, monks' cells. 200 steps to climb. Views of Nashik from the top are the best in the city. Spend 1–1.5 hours.

12:30 PM — Lunch

Satkar Restaurant (old Nashik institution, pure veg Maharashtrian thali) or Kapila Restaurant near the main chowk. ₹150–250 per person.

2:30 PM — Muktidham Temple

White Italian marble temple featuring replicas of all 12 Jyotirlingas under one roof. Not ancient but architecturally striking. Good for those wanting to symbolically visit all Jyotirlingas. 30 minutes.

7:00 PM — Evening Aarti at Ramkund

Return for the evening aarti — diyas floated on the river, priests chanting, flames on dark water. Deeply moving. Walk the riverside lanes, buy puja items, have chai. Dinner at a Panchavati restaurant — Marathi thali or misal pav.

Day 2 — Wine, Nature and Trimbakeshwar

6:00 AM — Trimbakeshwar Temple (Early Visit)

First shared jeep or cab to Trimbakeshwar (28 km, 45 minutes). Arrive before 8 AM for minimal queues at the Jyotirlinga temple. The Trimbakeshwar Shivalinga is unique among the 12 Jyotirlingas — three faces representing Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Early morning darshan is calm and profound. Explore Kushavarta Kund (Kumbh bathing site for Shaiva Akharas) after the temple.

10:00 AM — Return to Nashik

Back by 10:30 AM. Store luggage if checking out. Freshen up.

11:30 AM — Sula Vineyards

Cab to Sula (15 km, ₹200–300). Spend 2–3 hours: vineyard walk, wine tasting session (book weekends in advance), lunch at Little Italy or Soma. This is the cultural counterpoint to Day 1's spiritual intensity — and that contrast is exactly what makes Nashik unique in India. If time permits, visit nearby York Winery or Grover Zampa for comparison.

3:00 PM — Gangapur Dam

8 km from Nashik on the Trimbak road. Scenic reservoir in Sahyadri hills. Good for a quiet walk and views. Excellent sunset spot if you're staying another night.

5:00 PM — Shopping and Departure

MG Road area: copper/bronze religious items, Maharashtrian textiles, Nashik Khaj (local sweets — try Chirote and Shankarpali), and Sula wines to carry home. Available at their estate store and at Nashik Airport.

Practical Notes

• Day 1 transport: Book an auto for the morning circuit (Pandavleni + multiple stops) — negotiate ₹300–400 for 4 hours
• Sula booking: Book wine tasting in advance on weekends via sulavineyards.com
• Trimbakeshwar queue: Weekday mornings before 8 AM are shortest. Weekends can mean 1–2 hour waits
• Kumbh Mela 2027 adjustment: Replace Day 1 morning with your Amrit Snan visit. Everything else remains the same
• Where to stay: Panchavati area for Day 1 sites. Gangapur Road for Sula proximity
