What is the Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027?
The Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027, also known as Simhastha Kumbh, is one of the four sacred Kumbh Melas held in India every 12 years. It takes place on the banks of the holy Godavari river in Nashik and at the Kushavarta Kund in Trimbakeshwar — home of the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga.
The event is called "Simhastha" because it occurs when Jupiter (Guru) enters the Leo zodiac sign (Simha Rashi). According to Hindu mythology, drops of the divine Amrit that fell here make bathing in the Godavari during this period spiritually transformative.
Between 15 to 20 crore (150–200 million) devotees are expected to participate — making it one of the largest human gatherings on earth.
Official Amrit Snan Dates 2027
The three main bathing dates — Amrit Snan — are when the 13 Akharas lead sacred processions to the river.
Officially begins 31 October 2026 (flag hoisting) and concludes 24 July 2028. Over 45 auspicious bathing dates throughout — you don't have to come only on Amrit Snan days.
Two Sacred Locations — Nashik & Trimbakeshwar
Unlike other Kumbh Melas, the Nashik Kumbh uniquely spans two locations 28 km apart:
Ramkund, Nashik (Panchavati)
Primary bathing ghat for Vaishnava Akharas. Lord Rama is believed to have bathed here during his exile.
Kushavarta Kund, Trimbakeshwar
Sacred bathing tank for Shaiva Akharas. Located at the source of the Godavari, near the Jyotirlinga temple.
